Today was the first day in over a month the sun was shining both in the valley and at work. So i decided to drive up a little early, stop by White Pine and show everyone the chute, and try to give you an idea of how much snow is there. Its waist deep in places untouched and when the sun hits the untouched powder it literally twinkles like crystal. Its amazing....I hope to get some shots of work this week
- THE DRIVE
WASATCH MTNS
MOUTH OF THE CANYON
THIS SIGN UPDATES RESTRICTIONS-TODAY IS A RARE DAY,
WHERE THE CANYON ISNT RESTRICTED TO 4WD/CHAINS!!
- THE CANYON
moment a wall of snow can hit the road
this is little pine chute that fell last week, can ya tell?
better angle
yes and I'm going to sit in the middle of this chute in a moment!!
Dont worry avalanche danger is low today and I wasn't up on the
mtn where I could trigger anything.....and I can run fast
- WHITE PINE I love this place and since it was the first sunny day since I can remember I stopped for a few minutes to check it out covered in snow ( check Fall Time in Utahl section). The trail was actually packed down from the snowshoers and cross country skiers, however if you barely go off the trail you sink down knee-waist deep in untouched Utah powder. Its a little changed from the signs, to the bridge and even the chute looked incredibly scary covered in snow. I think I might have to check the trail out our next sunny day and hike in a little further.
here is the info sign, normally standing 6 feet tall but today is only
a few inches. I'm sitting on my butt to take this picture-click to
enlarge it you can read the sign
again this sign is maybe 6 feet and today i can just walk right over it
restrooms with 4 feet of snow sitting on top and buried
icecycles on trees melting in the sun, its 33 degrees....
heat wave
the bridge to cross the creek, literally full with
snow so now is just a trail and looks like.....
...this, only about 4 inches of the bridge show
on the bridge looking up stream
downstream looking toward little pine chute, I tracked out to get
here snow was thigh deep
and here we are looking straight up the chute, notice
the broken trees? Snapped like little toothpicks...
I must say I was shacking standing there
I've turned to my left from the above pictures, again more trees
tossed, bent and broken
and now I'm looking down. The avalanches just clear cut the trees away
this is the best picture I could take to get a handle on how the snow
twinkles. You can see if looks like a blanket of feathers.
click on it to enlarge it!!
