CATHERINES PASS AND SUNSET PEAK

This is a fairly easy hike with a lot to do and see while on this trail. This trailhead is only 5 minutes up the canyon from work so I decided to go on a quick hike with a co-worker before work started. Beautiful hike with amazing views from Sunset Peak.

Lake Martha and Mary. Im literally about to hike straight down to get there
Lake Martha. From here I could smell a campfire....
But really it was someone who didnt properly put out there fire from the night before. This
entire campsite was old rotted, decomposed roots and trees and the fire smoldered for hours
getting very close to the dry brush as you see on the top there.
See how close it is on the left? Me and my friend decided to run back and forth to a nearby stream,
fill our camelbacks and douse the fire. We called our fire dept we work with at Snowbird and continued
for 2 hrs to run to the stream and back trying to put it out.
The stream that saved the day

We pulled as much brush away from the fire (left) as we could and had it out after 2 hrs
the fire boys made sure we wouldnt have any further issues
view from fire site of Lake Martha.
Lake Mary, never had time to actually go down since I was already late for work

One last view of Catherines Pass before the fire guys drove me on the 4 wheelers back to the trailhead

MINERAL BASIN TO ALTA HIKE

I decided to go to work early and explore more terrain on my own mountain. So I took the Peruvian Chairlift up to our tunnel and explored back in Mineral Basin. I took a trail to a pass that overlooks both Alta and Mineral Basin with Mt. Timpanogos in the far distance.
I snowboard over this entire grove of trees and I never knew it

Still snow on August 14

Our tunnel takes you back into Mineral Basin. Its the first of its kind in North America, and actually takes you from Salt Lake County into Utah County.

Coming out to Mineral Basin
Sugarloaf Peak
Thats the trail Im about to go hike. It leads to Sugarloaf Pass with views of
Alta and Mineral Basin
Wildflowers are everywhere

Amazing view
