DONUT FALLS and then some

Decided to do a little hike to Donut Falls. I went with a co-worker, his son and his sons friend and we did a Big Cottonwood Canyon day. We hiked to the waterfall then I took them to Silver Lake and Willow Heights (2 previous posts).
Anyways Donut Falls is a 20 minute family hike, lots of kids and families doing this at 11 am. And there was no sign for me to take a picture of like I always do so this road sign will have to do today. Put a small video at the bottom of the falls

cool stream crossing area

snow and frost. It was cold

darn because I really wanted to go swimming in 40 degree water
here it is, not too big now that its the end of the water season. Probably cooler in the spring with the snow melt

here's how it got its name. The water made a hole through the rock and goes straight through it

back at Silver Lake. The stream is frozen solid

and back at Willow Heights, all the leaves are off the Aspens after last weeks snowfall

old mine shaft I spotted coming home from my Willow Heights hike 2 weeks ago...
we decided to check it out....

only goes maybe 10 yards till an iron gate prevents you from going any further
I stuck my camera through the gate and took this picture, it was pitch black so it was interesting to see what was back here. You see the old mine cart flipped on its side.

WILLOW HEIGHTS

I finally found Willow Heights up Big Cottonwood Canyon. Our first big storm of the season was moving in so I decided to hike it early before the rain turned to snow. The lake was made from a beaver dam and was easy to reach. Needless to say, yet another hike topped off all the previous and became the prettiest hike with the best views. I have a video at the bottom of the open meadow I came across, it was one of the prettiest places I have ever stumbled upon. And to top everything off, I had all this to myself as no one was out hiking this trail.
